Hello Friends,

I trust you are having a awesome day,Your work day
is over and you may be enjoying a relaxing cool drink
on your patio. My goodness there is still flooding here
in the USA.This weather has been really bad this year.
That can truly cause anxiety and depression.

Anxiety and depression are two separate conditions.
The exact relationship between the two is still under study.

Even though it’s very common to find them together,
any direct relationship to each other has yet to be
found. For the time being, the relationship between
anxiety and depression is often referred to as
co-morbidity.

Meaning unrelated but co-existing. Their symptoms can
overlap each other, which can make the initial
diagnosis of either condition difficult. The symptoms
can also be completely independent of each other.

A study by the National Co-morbidity Survey reported
that 58% of patients suffering major depression also
exhibited lifetime anxiety. Agitated depression and
apathetic depression are most often referred to when
supporting these results.

Both of these depressed states exhibit anxiety with
heightened restlessness, suicidal thoughts or
tendencies and a general sense of dread. While
agitated depression includes symptoms of nonclinical
and nonspecific panic, apathetic depression doesn’t.

Even mild anxiety symptoms are being found to have an
impact on the course depression takes in individuals.

A study at the University of Pittsburgh showed patients
diagnosed with depression and also suffering lifetime
panic symptoms experienced significant delays in the
success of their treatments.

These patients also exhibited additional problems when
facing the resumption of their normal activities.

There are theories regarding the possibility that
depression acts similar to anxiety in attempting to
encourage avoidance of potentially harmful situations.
Anxiety tries to avoid and prepare for physical
danger, while depression tries to avoid emotional or
psychological danger.

Is It Possible To Cure Through Yoga?

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Hello Friends,

I am so happy to be here again tonight with you, Not much to report from here today.  It was another beautiful day, most of it anyway., We had a shower this afternoon. I like those short showers. It clears the air. Gets rid of some of the dust. We have had more wind this year then I can ever remember, I have been here forty five years. It seems the weather has done some changing all across the country. With the weather changing all over the world and wars everywhere,  Seems, maybe we better be getting ready. What do you think?

Housewives, businessmen, sports people, teenagers and the aged are all practicing a variety of yoga positions, meditation and associated breathing exercises. For many, yoga becomes a way of life _ often giving a more spiritual side to people’s lives, although not necessarily linked to religion. One school of belief maintains that chronic and accumulated stress is the reason for many of our modern illnesses.

Perhaps one of yoga’s major attractions is that it combines physical and mental exercise. It is excellent for posture and flexibility, both key physical elements for most sports-people, and in some respects, there are strength benefits to be gained. Yoga teachers say that the approach of yoga therapy is one of the most effective ways of achieving the mental edge that athletes seek.

Yoga in a popular position Yoga, one of the world’s oldest forms of exercise, is experiencing a rebirth in our stressful modern world. You wouldn’t think that a 3000-year-old exercise could increase its popularity. But yoga is now being prescribed even by some medical practitioners for a range of health ailments and illnesses, as a stress reliever and to complement other fitness programs.

Proponents of yoga argue that it has a multiplicity of techniques to counter that cause and, unlike drug therapy, attack the cause, not just the symptoms. It offers, they say, a holistic approach to health and fitness. Many professional athletes, looking for the edge have turned to yoga as a supplementary form of training. They have found that yoga aids their state of mental and physical relaxation between training sessions, and their crucial build-up to big meets, where a competition is usually won or lost in the mind.

Marian Fenlon, one of Brisbane’s leading yoga teachers of the past 20 years, is the author of two books on the subject and has had thousands of yoga pupils. Many of them have, in turn, become teachers. Believe it or not, she has even taught yoga to footballers. Many years ago, she took Brisbane Souths rugby league team for an eight-week course and, amazingly, it was well-received. She says there are eight components to yoga therapy – attitudes, disciplines, posture and flexibility, breathing, sensory awareness, concentration, contemplation and meditation.

Talk to anyone who practices yoga and they will quickly extol an endless list of benefits. It seems beginners quickly become converts. They believe it is the key to good health and happiness in today’s world _ a common goal for most people. But probably the greatest advertisement for yoga is the fact that it seems to have graduated from the weird and alternative ranks into a position of fairly wide community acceptance.

Yoga can play a substantial supporting role to modern medicine, and complement other fitness and exercise programs. While there is no great component of aerobic fitness in yoga therapy, it complements aerobic exercise because of breathing techniques that can be learned. So there are advantages for even the most demanding of aerobic sports – swimming, cycling and running. There are numerous documented cases of yoga relieving or curing serious illnesses – such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and respiratory illnesses like asthma and emphysema.

If a person is feeling a lot of pain they will try just about anything to get rid of it, however you want to talk to your medical physician before doing anything like this.

Until Next Time,

Dealing With Sorrow – Depression Management

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Translator

Hello Friends

I am so happy to be here with you again this evening. Time goes so fast and you never know from one day to the next what changes will take place in your life.

There are always stressful situations that just seem to come up in our everyday life. Then you may loose a loved one. Family member maybe a spouse or a child. Then the depression sets in Believe me  I’ve been there. I have seen death first hand. Very close. But, you can get through your grief and depression.

Know that life is worth living.

While the term depression has been so commonly used people tend not to take it seriously anymore, it is a very serious condition that could impair one’s life. Depression is very difficult. It can debilitate one’s normal functions, making even the most mundane tasks such as getting up from bed or eating breakfast seemingly difficult. It is sad to think that a lot of depressed individuals are not treated because of the high costs of therapy.

However, coping with depression is still possible without professional help if one knows depression management. Here are a few things that can help deal with depression, it is important to note however, that professional therapy is still very invaluable with serious depression. These steps are just suggestions for alleviating the condition.

Staying active is one way to take one’s mind off depression. Primarily, activities help distract people from whatever it is that is causing their depression and it also helps channel unspent energies that build up when you are depressed. Keeping active also releases endorphins  natural mood boosters that somehow cheer people up.

It is also important to take a rest. Being depressed can be very exhausting, so it is  to yourself and be more at peace. When resting, stressors should be kept away from the bedroom so that ample rest can be obtained.

Depressed people should also express their emotions. Depression usually results from suppressed emotions. People who are grieving can be prone to depression if they keep their emotion to themselves. A lot of people avoid crying because they think it might be a sign of weakness. However, it is important to cry because it releases your emotions.

When expressing feelings, it’s important to avoid catharsis – venting up your anger by doing something violent like boxing, smashing things, and the like. Catharsis does not release your emotion, especially anger. Rather, it makes a person practice violence as an expression of emotion, and thus can be very dangerous.

Hang around with friends and loved ones. Depressed individuals need support very much. Other people can distract you from stresses. People can also remind a depressed individual that there can be more to life, and it is worth living even if it doesn’t seem so at the moment.

Lastly, it is important to believe in yourself. A lot of people get depressed because they put themselves down. It is important to satisfy yourself and gain a sense of self-worth. It is good to do something that would make you happy. Prioritizing yourself can help you to believe that your own life is important and can be enjoyed. Being kind to yourself is one of the most important steps to get away from a depressive state.

Depression management is possible and entails taking charge of your self. When dealing with depression however, it is important not to rush. Sadness does not disappear overnight; it takes time to get back on your feet. Little by little, you can get out of depression and have a normal life once more.

It is always wise to consult with a medical professional. Concerning
all your medical needs.

Always know you are a very important person. People care for
you.

Until Next Time

BE GOOD TO YOURSELF,STAY HEALTHY and BE HAPPY!!!

SELF IMPROVEMENT AND SUCCESS

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Hello Friends,

It is nice being back with you tonight.I hope your week-end
was a very restful for you. Have you had the opportunity to
get your landscaping and gardens in? If you don’t care for that
sort of thing. You just don’t know what you are missing.
It’s wonderful being able to sit on your patio or in your house and look at your beautiful flowers/trees. we have different colored trumpet vines for the humming birds. I do enjoy watching them. How could something so tiny have so much energy. Non-stop.

Richard put some bird feeders up for me this year. Where I can see them from my recliner or wheel chair. They are bringing in some of the smaller song birds. I do love watching them.

With all of the beauty around us, how can we be depressed? I was depressed for a very long time.I don’t care to go into that tonight. If you have been reading our blogs for any time at all, I’m sure you know, that I just recently lost my daughter to cancer also. Life does go on. I know she is in a better place with no more pain.

Everything that happens to us happens for a purpose. And sometimes, one thing leads to another. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures, treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self improvement and success.

I remember hearing of the  Patch Adams movie, actually. Its rated as one great film that will help you improve yourself. Hunter “patch” Adams is a medical student who failed to make it through the board exams. After months of suffering in melancholy, depression and suicidal attempts – he decided to seek for medical attention and voluntarily admitted himself in a psychiatric ward.  His months of stay in the hospital led him to meeting different kinds of people. Sick people in that matter.

He met a catatonic, a mentally retarded, a schizophrenic and so on. Patch found ways of treating his own ailment and finally realized he has to get back on track. He woke up one morning realizing that after all the failure and pains he has gone through, he still wanted to become a doctor. He carries with himself a positive attitude that brought him self improvement and success. He didn’t only improved himself, but also the life of the people around him and the quality of life. Did he succeed? Needless to say, he became the best damn doctor his country has ever known.

So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? Take these tips, friends…
*Stop thinking and feeling as if you’re a failure, because you’re not. How can others accept you if YOU can’t accept YOU?

*When you see hunks and models on TV, think more on self improvement, not self pitying. Self acceptance is not just about having nice slender legs, or great abs. Concentrate on inner beauty.

*When people feel so down and low about themselves, help them move up. Don’t go down with them. They’ll pull you down further and both of you will end up feeling inferior.

*The world is a large room for lessons, not mistakes. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed on a science quiz. There’s always a next time. Make rooms for self improvement.

*Take things one at a time.Self improvement is a one day at a time process.

*Self improvement results to inner stability, personality development and dig this …. SUCCESS. It comes from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem.

* Set meaningful and achievable goals. Self improvement doesn’t turn you to be the exact replica of Cameron Diaz. It hopes and aims to result into an improved and better YOU.

*Little things mean BIG to other people. Sometimes, we don’t realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, saying “hi” or “hello”, greeting someone “good day” or telling Mr. Smith something like “hey, I love your tie!” are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.

*When you’re willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, it doesn’t mean that everyone else is. The world is a place where people of different values and attitude hang out. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time, she would most likely decline an invitation for self improvement.

We should always remember that there’s no such thing as ‘over night success’ in anything. Its always a wonderful feeling to hold on to the things that you already have now, realizing that those are just one of the things you once wished for. A very nice quote says that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”  We are all here to learn our lessons. Our parents, school teachers, friends, colleagues, officemates, neighbors… they are our teachers. When we open our doors for self improvement, we increase our chances to head on down the road of success.

Until Next Time,

Are You Ready to Select Your Golden Retriver Puppy?

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Hello Friends,

Another weekend is here again. It was one of those short weeks we get once in awhile.I’m sure you enjoyed that. The weather is getting warmer a real sign summer is just around the corner. With that comes the hot weather. That is really not very good news for the very old. That’s the time for us to sit in front of our air-conditioners with our pets. Everyone has grown up and moved away. Now we are left alone, with man’s/woman’s best friend. They hardly ever argue with you or pout when told to do something. Well, almost never :D

If you don’t have a pet maybe its time to get one. Pets are wonderful
to have, if you are alone, they are lots of company. It’s a good thing
to have a pet for the kids. It teaches them responsibility.

Once you have decided on a breeder that you can trust, you’ll need to start thinking about what type of puppy you want.  This decision could take you some time, as it can be quite a few weeks or even months before the right litter is whelped – although it will be worth the wait.  If your breeder has a few litters available when you look for your Golden puppy, you may be able to compare.

Some breeders may require that you put a deposit down on the puppy of your choice, if the puppies aren’t a certain number of weeks old.  The good litters rarely go unsold, as most are already spoken for before the puppies are seven weeks old.  If you want to get in on a good litter, your best bet is to get to your breeder early – before all of the puppies are sold.

When you arrive to get your puppy, you shouldn’t be alarmed if the breeder does the selecting for you.  Most quality breeders will spend quite a bit of time with the puppies and they will know just what their individual temperaments are.  The better breeders however, will do temperament tests to determine the temperament of the puppies they have with each and every litter.

By performing these tests, the breeder will get assistance in selecting which puppy goes to which type of home.  If you’ve chosen one of the better breeders, you should let him do his work and help you select the puppy that he or she thinks will be your best match.  Breeders can obviously select you a better puppy, as they have been around the litter for several weeks – and you have only been around the litter looking at them for a few minutes.

Although all Golden puppies are appealing to the eyes, you need to base your reasons on more than looks.  Before you pick your puppy up, you should always make sure that he has a strong build, with straight legs.  The puppy should be strong and muscular, yet be squirmy and active when you first try to pick him up. You should also make sure that he has healthy teeth and gums, and look over the rest of his body to make sure that he is healthy.

If your breeder does allow you to select your puppy from the litter, then you should take the puppies that you are considering to get away from the remainder of the litter and observe each one carefully, and how they react to you.  Puppies that are around 7 weeks of age should be apt to explore their surroundings. Even though they may be a little cautious at first, the puppies should still be more than anxious to look around and sniff their surroundings.

When you single out the puppies, make sure you speak to the ones you are interested in and see how they react to your voice.Try moving around and playing with them, and see how they respond to you. Some puppies will be faster than others, although you shouldn’t pursue any interest in a puppy that doesn’t show any interest in moving objects or their surroundings.

If you take your time and evaluate each puppy that you are interested in, you can find the best puppy for you and your family. Golden Retriever puppies are great to have, providing you get one that’s healthy.Getting a healthy puppy should be your desire – as a healthy puppy will grow into a strong and healthy adult – and be around for years to come.

Until Next Time,

DO YOU HAVE a FEAR of FAILURE?

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Hello Friends,

I trust you had a wonderful day. I hope yours was as beautiful as ours.I hear there was lots of rain up on the cascades but on the east side of the mountains and here in the beautiful Yakima valley it was  great.

My niece came for a visit over the week-end. We had a little family gathering. My daughter, granddaughter and two of my great-grand babies. It was a nice time  for remembering the good times.

In life we have to take chances some times. You want to make a change.
Maybe a job change or maybe  moving to another city. Maybe you get a little knot in the pit of your stomach. Anxiety sets in. Is it a fear of failure?

The fear of failure is probably the number one problem holding people back from the success they desire and deserve.Conquering the fear of your level of success and achieve your dreams and goals. There are many ways to conquer the fear of failing, and it is important to choose the techniques that best suit your own personality and style.

When dealing with and addressing fear of failure issues, it is important to first understand that such fears are perfectly normal and justified.  After all, no one likes to fail, and repeated failures can be enough to make some people stop trying altogether.  Although fear of failure may be normal, it is also important to know that it can be overcome.

Many of the most successful people in the worlds of entertainment, business and politics failed repeatedly before they made it big.  It is rare indeed to encounter someone who was a true overnight success in any field.  Most people got there through hard work and perseverance, and that means they learned to handle rejection and put their fear of failure aside in order to achieve their goals.

The first step in conquering a deep seeded fear of failure is to take a step back and see that failure is not the end of the road.  Just because you failed to achieve your goal today does not mean you will not go on to triumph tomorrow.  The key is to learn from every setback, and to treat every failure as an opportunity to learn rather than as a reason to stop trying.

While it is true that if you never try anything new you can eliminate your fear of failure, this technique will not lead to a healthy and fulfilling life. New experiences, whether in the social world, your personal life, or in the business arena are what gives life its spice and spark. Eliminating these important elements of life just because you are afraid you will not succeed, is not the way to a fulfilling life.

Rather, the road to a fulfilling life, a successful business and a rewarding personal life lies in seeing failure as a temporary setback and not a permanent condition.Once you have come to see failure as permanent, it is easy to become depressed and discouraged. If, on the other hand, you see failure as temporary, and use it as a way to learn and grow, your fear of failure will be diminished or even eliminated.

Of course, dealing with fear of failure in this manner is easier said than done, and it will take a lot of work, perseverance and patience to truly overcome a fear of failure. It all boils down o having a positive attitude, and knowing that you can succeed. The people you surround yourself with can have a significant impact on your success as well. For instance, if you choose to surround yourself with people who are negative, or those who think they can never succeed, that bad attitude is bound to rub off on you, and make conquering your fear of failure that much harder.

If, on the other hand, you can surround yourself with positive people, those who express a can do attitude about life, that attitude will be infectious as well.  A positive attitude is as easy to spread as a negative one, so try to keep your circle of contacts positive and focused on your goals.

Have a, “I will succeed attitude.”

Getting anxious over Anxiety Depression?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Hello Friends,

I trust you are having a wonderful day. I hope you are all well.   Now, how much did you get accomplished over the week-end? Did you get your garden planted? I do believe some of you living in the southern states are already appreciating your yards and gardens.

We had a much cooler day today with wind and rain here in the Pacific Northwest. Rain is always good when you are starting your planting, I can do without the wind.

A lot of people who are exerting too much of their brain power usually exhaust not only their physical strength when engaging in various  multi-tasking activities, they also tend to over extend their brains up to the point when it plainly needs some good old time for relaxation. A lot of busy people who seem to cannot fathom the idea of relaxing and taking time of from work, as well as their worries, tend to actually start having nervous breakdowns, anxiety depression and all sorts of mental illnesses that can cause a person’s sanity to go haywire, fortunately, if you’re one of those poor unfortunate ones who are unable to distress and is constantly worried and fussing over things, there are actually available cures and various treatments for treating anxiety depression.

Anxiety depression is actually characterized by all sorts of irregularities and erratic behavior from the person who is suffering from it, this is usually due to certain stress triggers that may tend to easily cause a person undue jitters and stress. Also, a lot of people who tend to get easily nervous over stressful activities are actually prone to having anxiety depression, its just a matter of being strong-willed when it comes to facing difficult and stress-prone activities. It may be pretty hard to overcome at first, but trying to be calm and cool in times of extreme pressure is what will  actually save your mental health from going totally downward spiral.

When it comes to effectively curing one’s self from a mental illness, one must keep in mind that you have to be actually honest with yourself and assess what kind of depression or mental illness you actually have, go to reputable psychiatrist to get yourself diagnosed correctly as well as be able to get the right depression treatment for yourself. Here are the various types of depression:

Manic or Bipolar depression – characterized by sudden and extreme changes in one’s mood wherein one minute he or she is in an elevated state of euphoria while the  next minute (day or week) he or she is feeling to be in a personal hell.

Postpartum depression – characterized by a prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness by a new mother wherein physical stress during child birth, an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby can be just some of the possible factors why some new mother go through this.

Dysthimia – characterized by a slight similarity with depression, although this time, it’s been proven to be a lot less severe, but of course with any case, should be treated immediately.

Cyclothemia – characterized by a slight similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness may occasionally suffer from severe changes in one’s moods.

Seasonal Affective Disorder – characterized by falling in a rut only during specific seasons (i.e. winter, spring, summer or fall) studies however, prove that more people

Actually fall in to a rut more during the winter and Fall seasons and lastly, Mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in just a short time.

But the type of depression that has actually been proven to be quite common among people is anxiety depression, which is actually characterized by the state of being overly anxious about things. Anxiety, a supposedly normal behavior that will actually help a person adjust more to a certain stressful activity like first date jitters or a grueling exam the following day. Anxiety actually helps you get psyched up towards facing certain “difficult situations”; anxiety therefore is actually a good thing. Anxiety depression however, is simply the opposite, not to be easily dismissed as a “case of the nerves”; Anxiety depression is in actuality an illness that can be caused from the biological makeup of an individual, or in other words, a hereditary illness.

Also, there are actually various types of Anxiety depression, each having its own unique characteristics. Take for example Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD, this kind of Anxiety depression is a lot more complicated than the average Anxiety depression, in spite of possibly being a day-to-day habit for those who suffer this kind of Anxiety depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually makes the individual quite more paranoid than usual, anxiety attacks are more frequent, even absurd at times. They can even be anxious even when there’s no apparent reason that calls for them to behave in such a way. People suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually shows a lot of symptoms, from lack of sleep, to being unable to relax, getting tired easily, cannot concentrate on what they’re doing and even suffering from depression.  This kind of Anxiety depression is still curable; just a little work will actually do the trick.

Consult a reputable cognitive behavior therapist who’ll help give the individual the therapy that he or she needs to help him or her loosen up, also prescribed medicines are sort of a must to help these individuals battle anxiety attacks, help them calm down and relax.

Until Next Time,

What Does Magnesium Have To Do with Depression?

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Hello Friends

I get so many people asking for more information
on depression I thought I would add this for you
tonight. This is one of the things they had me
try when I first started having problems. As a matter of fact
I am still taking Magnesium as it also helps
ease muscle cramps. The B vitamins also help with
depression.

Depression is something that many of us experience
at some point in our lives.  As a matter of fact,
short-term depression is a normal coping mechanism
be experiencing, such as dealing with the death
of a loved one or dealing with an illness.
There are other types of depression, however,
that are not natural and the long-term problems
that are dealt with during the person’s lifetime.

Although there can be a number of different
things that are behind this type of depression,
it is often an imbalance of some sort in the
body that is the culprit.  Finding out what
is behind that imbalance is the best way for
you to be able to overcome the problem once
and for all.

There are a number of different things that
are typically lacking whenever a person is
dealing with depression. One good example of
this is magnesium and a lack of magnesium in
the body can really cause you to deal with
depression on a number of different levels.

One of the reasons why this is the case is because
magnesium is responsible for many of the
functions of the neurotransmitters in our
brain and if things aren’t firing properly,
depression is often the result.

If you feel that a problem with magnesium may be
at the root of your depression, there are
some supplements that you can take in order
to build back up the levels to the point
where they should be.  Of course, there are
some things that need to be taken into
consideration.

First of all, a lack of magnesium may only
be part of the problem that you are dealing with.
There could be other vitamin and mineral
deficiencies in your body, such as vitamin B.
You should also make sure that you are taking
a natural supplement and not something that is
ull of man-made ingredients.

It is best if you get the magnesium naturally
through the foods that you eat but it is also possible for
you to supplement, provided you are supplementing
with something that is all natural.

One mistake that you would want to avoid is
taking the magnesium short-term and then
stopping once you begin feeling better.

Typically, you need to continue to take
these supplements even after you begin
feeling of depression lift.  Finding temporary
relief and then allowing the depression to
return will only make it more difficult to treat the next time.

Always check with your physician before taking any
supplements
.
